Courses on Cinema

Over the past few years I have presented the following courses. I have also run a regular Film Forum via zoom, discussing a wide range of actors and directors with an adult learning group. Please contact me if you would like to hear more about this work.

Courses on Themes and Directors

  • Women in Cinema

    A 6-week course on the representation of women in cinema, from Hollywood’s earliest days up to the present time. Several genres are explored, including Film Noir, Comedy, Thrillers, and ‘Women in a Man’s World’.

  • Masculinities and the Movies

    A course on the multiple ways in which men are depicted in cinema, through a variety of classic ‘types’: lone wolves, heroes and super-heroes, fathers, and romantic leads.

  • Directors

    A course on a wide range of film directors, exploring their role acorss multiple genres and eras. Includes the films of Jane Campion, Steven Spielberg, Steve McQueen, Sofia Coppola, Christopher Nolan, and Powell & Pressurger.
